Dubai Bus Routes Temporarily Diverted as Al Maktoum Bridge Undergoes Maintenance

Dubai, UAE – Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that several bus routes will be temporarily diverted due to maintenance work on the Al Maktoum Bridge. This project, which started on September 29, 2024, will continue until January 23, 2025.

Why the Maintenance?

The Al Maktoum Bridge, a key connection between Deira and Bur Dubai, is undergoing essential maintenance to improve its safety and efficiency. This bridge is crucial for both road and maritime traffic, and the work involves partial closures that will affect many daily commuters.

How Will This Affect Commuters?

The maintenance schedule includes partial closures from Monday to Saturday, 11 PM to 5 AM, and a full closure on Sundays. Consequently, several bus routes crossing the Al Maktoum Bridge will be rerouted via the Al Garhoud Bridge. The affected bus routes include 10, 23, 27, 33, 88, C04, C05, C10, C26, E16, X28, and X94.

What Should Commuters Do?

Commuters should plan their journeys in advance and consider alternative routes to avoid delays. The RTA has advised passengers to use the S’hail app for real-time updates and journey planning. Some bus stops near the Al Maktoum Bridge will also be temporarily unavailable, so it’s important to stay informed.

Al Maktoum Bridge – RTA’s Measures to Help

To minimize inconvenience, the RTA has rerouted buses via the Al Garhoud Bridge. They have also provided detailed information about the affected routes and alternative travel options through the S’hail app. Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure the long-term functionality and safety of the Al Maktoum Bridge, which has hydraulic pumps to allow it to open and close for maritime traffic.

Stay Updated

Commuters are encouraged to stay updated on the latest maintenance schedules and bus route changes. The RTA’s S’hail app and social media channels will provide real-time information to help passengers plan their journeys effectively. Motorists are also advised to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time.

While the temporary diversions and closures may cause some inconvenience, the maintenance of the Al Maktoum Bridge is necessary for the safety and efficiency of Dubai’s transportation infrastructure. By staying informed and planning ahead, commuters can navigate these changes with minimal disruption. This maintenance work highlights Dubai’s commitment to maintaining its world-class infrastructure and providing safe, reliable transportation for all residents and visitors.
