The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that Al Maktoum Bridge will have partial closures until January 16, 2025, due to essential maintenance work. This bridge is a key connection between Deira and Bur Dubai.
Closures’ Schedule
Starting now, Al Maktoum Bridge will be closed from Mondays to Saturdays between 11 PM and 5 AM. On Sundays, it will be closed for 24 hours. This schedule will continue until mid-January next year, which might cause some disruptions for daily commuters and tourists.
Planning Your Journey
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays. The RTA has suggested several alternative routes to ensure smooth travel during the closure periods. Here are the recommended detours:
From Deira to Bur Dubai:
- Infinity Bridge via Baniyas Road, Al Khaleej Street, and Corniche Street.
- Al Shindagha Tunnel via Baniyas Road and Al Khaleej Street.
- Al Garhoud Bridge via Baniyas Road and Sheikh Rashid Road.
- Business Bay Crossing Bridge via Baniyas Road, Sheikh Rashid Road, and Rebat Street.
From Bur Dubai to Deira:
- Infinity Bridge or Al Shindagha Tunnel via Tariq Bin Ziyad Road, Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road, and Al Khaleej Street.
- Al Garhoud Bridge via Oud Metha Road and Sheikh Rashid Road.
- Business Bay Crossing Bridge via Oud Metha Road and Al Khail Road.
Alternative routes
While the maintenance work is essential for the safety and longevity of the bridge, it does pose a challenge for regular commuters. The RTA’s proactive approach in providing alternative routes aims to minimize inconvenience. Motorists are encouraged to stay updated with the latest traffic news and plan their routes accordingly.
A Legacy of Connectivity
Al Maktoum Bridge, one of Dubai’s oldest and busiest bridges, has been a vital connection for the city since its opening in 1963. It was the first bridge to span Dubai Creek, significantly enhancing connectivity between Deira and Bur Dubai. Over the years, it has undergone several upgrades to meet the growing demands of the city’s infrastructure.
The ongoing maintenance is part of the RTA’s broader strategy to ensure the city’s infrastructure remains robust and efficient. By January 2025, the bridge is expected to be fully operational, offering improved safety and reliability for all users.
Stay Informed
As Dubai continues to grow and evolve, infrastructure maintenance becomes increasingly important. The temporary inconvenience caused by the Al Maktoum Bridge closures is a small price to pay for the long-term benefits of a safer and more efficient transport network. Stay informed, plan ahead, and embrace the changes for a smoother journey through the city.
