Ajman to Launch Smart Traffic System to Catch Phone Use and Seatbelt Violations

Smart Solution by Ajman Government

Starting October 1, 2024, Ajman will roll out a new smart traffic system to catch drivers using mobile phones and not wearing seatbelts. This move aims to make roads safer and reduce accidents in the emirate.

Traffic Violations and Safety Issues

Traffic violations, especially using mobile phones while driving and not wearing seatbelts, are major causes of accidents in Ajman. Despite many awareness campaigns, these risky behaviors continue, putting both drivers and pedestrians in danger. Ajman Police have decided to tackle these issues head-on to make the roads safer for everyone.

The Risks of Distracted Driving

Using a mobile phone while driving greatly increases the risk of accidents. Studies show that drivers using phones are four times more likely to crash. Not wearing a seatbelt can lead to severe injuries or even death in an accident. These violations not only endanger the violators but also other road users.

Smart Traffic Monitoring System

To address these problems, Ajman Police are introducing a smart traffic monitoring system. This advanced technology uses artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically detect drivers using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts. The system will operate 24/7, ensuring continuous monitoring and enforcement of traffic laws.

How the System Works

The smart monitoring system is equipped with high-resolution cameras and AI algorithms that can accurately identify violations. When a violation is detected, the system captures an image of the vehicle and the driver, which is then reviewed by traffic authorities. Offenders will receive a fine of Dh400 and four black points on their driving license, as per federal law.

Benefits of the Smart Traffic System

Enhanced Road Safety

By deterring mobile phone use and encouraging seatbelt compliance, the system aims to reduce the number of traffic accidents and fatalities.

Efficient Law Enforcement

The automated system allows for real-time detection and processing of violations, reducing the burden on traffic police and ensuring consistent enforcement.

Public Awareness

The implementation of this system is accompanied by a public awareness campaign to educate drivers about the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of wearing seatbelts.

Public Response and Expectations

The introduction of the smart traffic monitoring system has received mixed reactions from the public. While many support the initiative for its potential to improve road safety, others have concerns about privacy and the accuracy of the system. Ajman Police have assured the public that the system has undergone rigorous testing to ensure its reliability and that measures are in place to protect individuals’ privacy.

Future Prospects

Ajman’s smart traffic monitoring system is part of a larger vision to integrate advanced technologies into the emirate’s infrastructure. The success of this initiative can pave the way for implementing similar systems across the UAE, contributing to a nationwide effort to enhance road safety and reduce traffic violations.

The launch of Ajman’s smart traffic monitoring system marks a significant step towards improving road safety in the emirate. Using advanced technology to detect and deter traffic violations, Ajman Police are proactively protecting drivers and pedestrians. When the system goes live on October 1, 2024, it should improve driving behavior and make roads safer.
