Achyut Potdar Passes Away at 91
On August 18, 2025, the actor took his last breath at Jupiter Hospital in Thane, Mumbai. Though the exact cause hasn’t been revealed, what’s certain is that Indian cinema has lost a gem that quietly shone through decades of storytelling. His final rites are scheduled for August 19 in Thane, and with that, an era closes.
Before Potdar became a familiar face on the silver screen, he lived an entirely different life. He served with pride in the Indian Armed Forces, later worked at Indian Oil Corporation, and then decided to take a leap into films in the 1980s. That leap turned into a glorious career spanning decades and oh, what a ride it was!
Achyut’s Notable works
If you’ve watched Hindi cinema, chances are you’ve spotted him. His filmography reads like a Bollywood history book – Aakrosh, Ardh Satya, Tezaab, Parinda, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Dilwale, Yeh Dillagi, Rangeela, Ishq, Vaastav, Parineeta, Dabangg 2, Ventilator and the list doesn’t even scratch the surface.
But let’s be honest, for many of us, he’ll always be remembered as the no-nonsense professor in 3 Idiots, the one who made Rancho’s rebellion all the more iconic.
Potdar wasn’t just about films. He left his mark on the small screen too with shows like Wagle Ki Duniya, Bharat Ki Khoj, Mrs. Tendulkar, and Majha Hoshil Na. Every role, no matter how big or small, had his warmth stamped all over it.
