The Abu Dhabi summer safety campaign is back for its sixth edition, with a strong call for residents to take extra precautions during the peak of the UAE’s hot season. Led by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters in partnership with the Civil Defence Authority, the initiative runs until 31 August 2025, focusing on fire prevention, pool safety, child protection, and home security during summer travel.
The campaign targets heat-related accidents by raising awareness as high temperatures persist through August.
Fire safety and accident prevention at the core
A major focus of this year’s campaign is preventing household fires, especially those caused by electrical faults or neglected cooking appliances. Residents are encouraged to follow basic fire safety measures at home—such as turning off unused electrical items, servicing air-conditioning units, and keeping fire extinguishers handy.
Field activities and awareness drives will take place throughout the summer, using digital, print and community platforms to inform the public about safe behaviour during hot weather. These activities also aim to reinforce good practices for handling gas cylinders, barbecues, and flammable materials.
Parents urged: Don’t leave children alone in cars or pools

In a powerful message to parents, police reiterated the life-threatening risks of leaving children unattended in parked cars—even for a few minutes. The intense heat inside closed vehicles can cause suffocation or heatstroke in a matter of minutes, particularly in younger children.
Similarly, the campaign places strong emphasis on pool safety, urging adults to provide continuous supervision near water. Whether in private villas or community pools, children must never be left alone, and floatation devices should not be relied upon in place of proper monitoring.
Simple safety steps—like installing pool fences, learning CPR, and removing pool toys after use—can make a major difference, officials noted.
Stay alert during summer travel: Secure your home before leaving
With many residents heading abroad during the break, the campaign also stresses the importance of securing homes and valuables before travelling. Police recommend switching off power supply to unused devices, locking all doors and windows, and storing cash or jewellery in safes or banks.
Advanced security options—like smart home systems and alarm-linked cameras—are also encouraged for those who will be away for an extended time. These systems not only deter potential intrusions but also allow remote monitoring for peace of mind.
Warning over tyre blowouts and vehicle fires
Another seasonal hazard addressed in the campaign is road safety, especially concerning tyre blowouts and car fires caused by overheating. Inspect your vehicle tyres regularly for cracks or wear, and keep them properly inflated to stay safe on the road.
Never leave lighters, batteries, aerosol cans, or other flammable items in vehicles—especially under direct sunlight. Simple precautions can prevent serious incidents during summer commutes and long road trips.
E-game awareness: The hidden dangers of excessive screen time
Beyond physical risks, the campaign touches on a growing concern among UAE families: the impact of violent electronic games on children and teenagers. Officials highlighted how these games can foster aggressive behaviour, digital addiction, and social withdrawal if left unchecked.
Parents are encouraged to monitor the types of games their children play, promote physical activity, and engage in open conversations about digital habits. Maintaining a healthy tech-life balance is essential for both physical and mental wellbeing, especially during school breaks.
Community support through the ‘Aman’ reporting service
Authorities continue to call on the public to actively participate in maintaining safety by reporting unsafe practices or suspicious activity. The ‘Aman’ service, operated by Abu Dhabi Police, allows residents to report concerns anonymously via phone, SMS, or email. This contributes to a shared responsibility model, reinforcing a culture of prevention and safety in the community.
A season-long effort for a safer Abu Dhabi
From fire prevention and pool safety to home security and digital wellbeing, this campaign reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to building a safer society during the most challenging time of the year. With strong community participation and continued education, authorities hope to significantly reduce avoidable incidents this summer.
Stay alert, follow advice, and keep your family safe this UAE summer.
