Abu Dhabi Paid Parking in Mohamed Bin Zayed City Starts April 6

New parking system introduces paid zones, residential permits, and over 11,000 spaces to ease congestion in key areas.

Abu Dhabi is rolling out a paid parking system in Mohamed Bin Zayed City starting April 6, 2026, targeting busy commercial zones and nearby residential areas. The move is part of a wider effort to organise parking, reduce congestion, and improve daily commutes for residents and visitors.

With more than 11,000 parking spaces included in the first phase, the initiative is expected to bring much-needed structure to one of the capital’s busiest districts.

Abu Dhabi Paid Parking

New Paid Parking Applies

The first phase of the paid parking system will focus on high-traffic commercial sectors. These include ME10 and ME11, along with key streets within villa zones such as Z17-01, Z19, Z20, and Z27.

These areas see a constant flow of vehicles due to offices, retail outlets, and service centres. Parking shortages and random parking have been ongoing concerns, often making it difficult for visitors to access businesses easily.

By introducing regulated parking, authorities aim to create a smoother experience for both motorists and pedestrians.

Parking Fees and Payment Options

Motorists will be charged Dh2 per hour for secondary parking spaces. The system has been designed to be simple and flexible, with multiple payment methods available.

Users can pay through:

  • Darb app
  • TAMM app
  • SMS
  • On-ground parking machines

This multi-channel approach ensures that residents and visitors can choose what works best for them, without delays or confusion.

Residential Parking Rules Explained

Alongside paid commercial parking, surrounding villa areas will now have permit-only parking zones.

This means:

  • Only authorised residents can park in designated residential spaces
  • Non-residents will need to use paid parking areas
  • The move helps maintain privacy and accessibility for those living in the area

For many residents, this comes as a welcome change. Previously, commercial overflow often spilled into residential streets, leading to limited parking availability near homes.

11,000+ Parking Spaces to Be Activated

The scale of the rollout is significant. A total of 11,030 parking spaces will be activated across multiple sectors:

  • ME10: 6,666 spaces
  • ME11: 3,758 spaces
  • Z17-01: 431 spaces
  • Z19: 108 spaces
  • Z20: 67 spaces

Dedicated parking spaces for People of Determination have also been included, ensuring accessibility remains a priority.

This structured allocation is expected to reduce random parking, improve road safety, and make navigation easier across the area.

11,000+ Parking Spaces

New Multi-Storey Parking Adds Relief

In addition to the paid parking rollout, authorities have already introduced four multi-storey parking facilities across Mohamed Bin Zayed City.

These are located in ME9, ME10, and ME12, adding a total of 1,446 parking spaces.

  • ME9: 682 spaces
  • ME10: 346 spaces
  • ME12: 418 spaces

These buildings are designed to handle peak-hour demand and reduce pressure on street parking.

Mohamed Bin Zayed City is one of Abu Dhabi’s busiest residential and commercial hubs. With thousands of employees commuting daily, parking demand has often outpaced supply.

Unorganised parking has led to:

  • Traffic congestion
  • Blocked access to shops and offices
  • Delays during peak hours

The new system directly addresses these issues by introducing regulated parking and improving accessibility. For businesses, this could mean better footfall as customers find it easier to park and visit.

Smarter Urban Mobility

The initiative is being implemented by Q Mobility under the supervision of the Integrated Transport Centre. It aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader vision of building a smart and sustainable transport system.

The focus is not just on parking—but on improving overall urban mobility. By organising parking spaces and reducing traffic disruptions, the city aims to enhance the quality of life for residents.

The introduction of paid parking in Mohamed Bin Zayed City marks a practical step towards solving long-standing traffic and parking challenges. With structured zones, flexible payment options, and added infrastructure, the system is set to bring noticeable improvements from day one.

For residents and regular visitors, adapting to the new rules will be key—but the long-term benefits are clear: smoother traffic, better access, and a more organised city experience.
