From Lagaan’s cricket pitch to Laal Singh Chaddha’s heartstring symphony, Aamir Khan has served iconic roles on a silver platter like no other. While fans are buzzing about his upcoming Sitaare Zameen Par, Mr. Perfectionist has dropped a dhamaakedaar update with Mahabharat!
Aamir Khan Is soon Going To Make A Film Based on Mahabharat
If Bollywood ever had a bucket list, Mahabharat by Aamir Khan would top it. The superstar recently revealed that he’s all set to dive into dharma yuddh, and honestly, we’ve never been more intrigued. In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, he spilled the beans about finally bringing his long-standing dream project to life and it’s going to be grand, gutsy, and gloriously mythological.
He shared, “I always believe in stories and I have always loved stories. So, my ambition is to continue to tell stories which touch our hearts. The one other ambition that I have which I am hoping to start work on this year, is working on the Mahabharat. That’s one of my biggest ambitions. So, fingers crossed, hoping to start this year. It will take a while because just the writing process will take a few years.”
He admitted that telling the Mahabharat tale in just one film is a straight-up no-go. So brace yourselves for a multi-film saga with possibly multiple directors, because you don’t retell one of India’s greatest epics casually – you go all in or go home. He expressed, “I don’t think you can tell Mahabharat in one film. So, it would be multiple films. It is too early to say, but we might need multiple directors if we have to plan it in a certain timeline. If we do one after the other, it will take very long; like they did it for The Lord Of The Rings. They shot three parts together. So, in that case, you might need more than one director.”
Casting Curveball: Aamir Might Not Star In It?
Plot twist alert! While the man is steering this mammoth ship as producer, he’s not yet committing to playing a role in the film. “As a producer; actor, we will see. We should cast based on who is appropriate for which part. So, I think as a producer for sure.” he said like the true artiste he is. So while we all imagined him as Krishna or Karna, Aamir might just stay behind the lens and let the right talent shine onscreen. #RespectTheCraft
The Mahabharat isn’t your average screenplay – it’s layered, legendary, and loaded with complexity. Aamir revealed that even the writing could take years.
What’s next for aamir khan?
While Mahabharat is gearing up in the background, Aamir is keeping his acting game strong. He’ll next be seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, dropping in summer 2025. The film reunites him with Darsheel Safary and stars Genelia Deshmukh too. Aamir’s also dipping his toe into the South with Rajinikanth’s Coolie. He is also producing Lahore 1947 with Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta – a period drama that’s got our curiosity levels skyrocketing.
