In an age of OTT takeovers and overpriced subscriptions, trust Aamir Khan to break the norm. While fans were digging through streaming platforms hoping to find Sitaare Zameen Par, Mr. Perfectionist was quietly plotting something totally unexpected, dropping the full film for FREE on YouTube! But, he had said that would never happen?
Aamir Khan comes clean on his film sitaare zameen par’s online release
At a recent press event, Aamir Khan pulled a full-on confession mode and owned up to the fib. Turns out, he didn’t want to derail the box office game by hinting at a free digital drop. He did what many actors wouldn’t dare: he lied, for the love of theatres.
Folding hands, he apologized and said, “I want to say… to all those people who asked me if my film is coming on YouTube — I fold my hands and apologize to you all, because I lied. I had no other option. I couldn’t say anything else, because I had to protect the theatrical business. My journey started with cinema. And I’m extremely loyal to cinema, to theatres. I’ve always tried my best to protect the business of theatres.”
Why all the secrecy? Simple: Aamir’s first love is the big screen. He didn’t want audiences to skip the theatrical experience, thinking the film would land online anyway. So yes, he said “no YouTube” and then turned around and gave fans the biggest surprise upload of the year.
Aamir Explained Himself Like a Total Filmy Philosopher
Protecting cinema halls was his mission, and in his mind, a tiny lie was better than letting ticket sales tank. He shared, “I wanted that when we do this experiment for the first time, we should fully protect the theatre. And that’s why, when a few people asked me whether the film is coming on YouTube, I said no, it’s not coming on YouTube. I had to say that, and I apologize for it. Unfortunately, I had to lie — because otherwise, this dream of mine would’ve ended right there.”
In a chat with podcaster Raj Shamani, Aamir went on record saying Sitaare Zameen Par won’t be lighting up any OTT platforms. Not Netflix, not Prime, not even Hotstar. It’s either theatre or YouTube, nothing in between.
He also added, “I wanted that when we do this experiment for the first time, we should fully protect the theatre. And that’s why, when a few people asked me whether the film is coming on YouTube, I said no, it’s not coming on YouTube. I had to say that, and I apologize for it. Unfortunately, I had to lie — because otherwise, this dream of mine would’ve ended right there.”
What’s Sitaare Zameen Par Even About?
A heartfelt follow-up to Taare Zameen Par, this one’s got Aamir front and centre, Genelia Deshmukh glowing as ever, and ten fresh faces stealing hearts. It’s based on the Spanish gem Champions and helmed by director R.S. Prasanna. Drama, inspiration, and feels – triple confirmed.
What’s next for aamir?
This man’s not slowing down. He’s got Lahore 1947 with Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, and Ek Din starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. Aamir Khan Productions is in full throttle mode and clearly, he’s making content that’s equal parts heart and hustle.
