UAE Fuel Prices Likely to Rise in April as Global Oil Markets Surge

Petrol and diesel rates expected to increase as global tensions push oil prices higher ahead of March 31 announcement

Fuel prices are back in the spotlight across the UAE — and this time, the shift feels harder to ignore.

With UAE fuel prices April 2026 set to be announced on March 31, there’s growing anticipation of another increase. The reason is simple: global oil markets have surged sharply over the past few weeks, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions.

For many residents in Dubai, this isn’t just another headline. It’s something that quietly affects everyday routines — from school runs to late-night drives down Sheikh Zayed Road.

Petrol Prices Are Increasing Across Multiple Regions

This isn’t a local issue. It’s happening almost everywhere.

Over the past month, countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas have revised fuel prices upward. Major economies like the US, UK, Germany, and Japan have all seen increases. At the same time, developing nations such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines have experienced even sharper spikes.

In some cases, the jump has been steep. The Philippines, for instance, recorded an increase of over 80 percent — one of the highest globally.

Across Europe, prices climbed by around 12 percent in just a few weeks. It’s a clear sign that the pressure on oil markets is widespread, not isolated.

The Real Reasons Oil Prices Are Surging

To understand what’s happening at the pump, it helps to look at what’s happening globally.

Oil prices have jumped from around $72 per barrel in late February to over $114 by the end of March. That’s a massive increase in a short span of time.

The main trigger? Rising tensions in the Middle East and concerns over supply routes, especially around the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most critical oil transit points.

When supply feels uncertain, markets react quickly. Prices go up. And eventually, that increase makes its way down to everyday consumers.

How Rising Fuel Costs Are Felt on the Roads?

Dubai is a city that runs on movement. Long drives are part of daily life — whether it’s commuting from Mirdif to Downtown or heading out to JLT after work.

So when fuel prices rise, the impact is felt almost immediately.

Even a small increase per litre adds up over time. A full tank costs more. Weekly fuel budgets stretch slightly. And for those who drive for a living — delivery riders, taxi drivers, transport operators — the difference becomes even more noticeable.

In March, prices had already gone up by around Dh0.14 per litre. Diesel saw an even bigger jump. If April follows the same pattern, residents can expect to feel that extra pinch again.

The Logic Behind Monthly Fuel Price Updates

One thing that makes the UAE different is its pricing system.

Since 2015, fuel prices here have been linked directly to global markets. There are no fixed rates. Instead, prices are reviewed and adjusted every month.

It keeps things transparent, but it also means changes happen quickly — sometimes faster than people expect.

For residents, checking fuel prices at the end of each month has become almost routine. It’s a small update, but one that can shape spending decisions in the weeks ahead.

As the April fuel price announcement approaches, the direction seems fairly clear — and it’s pointing upward.

Global oil markets remain volatile, and the UAE’s pricing system reflects those shifts in real time. While the official rates will be confirmed soon, residents are already bracing for a possible increase.

In a city like Dubai, where driving is part of the rhythm of daily life, even small changes don’t go unnoticed.

It’s not about reacting in the moment. It’s about staying aware, adjusting where needed, and keeping an eye on what comes next.
