Dubai RTA Completes Al Wasl–Al Manara Road Upgrade

New lane and U-turn added to ease pressure on one of Dubai’s busiest intersections

Motorists in west Dubai are set to benefit from smoother journeys following the completion of a key road enhancement at the Al Wasl–Al Manara intersection. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed the works have reduced delays in the area by 35%, thanks to a newly added lane and an upgraded turning system that improves traffic circulation.

The intersection, which sees heavy movement daily from residents in Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, and Al Safa, has long required a more efficient layout to handle the area’s high traffic volume.

Dedicated Lane and U-Turn

The upgrade brings two major features to the area:

  • A new dedicated right-turn lane from Al Wasl Street into Al Manara Street
  • A revised U-turn layout on Al Wasl Street, aimed at relieving backlogs during peak periods

These changes make it easier for commuters to switch directions and reduce wait times at traffic signals, especially during school drop-offs, late afternoons, and weekends.

The improved flow is already noticeable for many regular users of the corridor, especially those heading toward community hubs like Wasl Square, schools, cafes, and clinics.

A Targeted Move for High-Density Areas

This project is part of a wider RTA initiative to improve road efficiency in high-traffic residential zones. The Al Wasl–Al Manara stretch was identified as a pressure point due to overlapping peak-hour flows, limited turning options, and signal timings that caused frequent hold-ups.

With the new configuration in place, daily drive times are expected to drop, and vehicles can now loop around more easily without clogging up the main lanes.

Local Drivers Already Seeing the Difference

Residents and commuters have begun noticing the impact. One driver who lives nearby noted how morning queues have become shorter and less stressful. Another regular commuter, working in Jumeirah, said the new U-turn has helped cut their evening drive by nearly 10 minutes.

These everyday benefits reflect the RTA’s consistent push to improve not just major highways, but also essential community intersections that affect daily life.

Part of Dubai’s Long-Term Mobility Planning

The upgrade is not a standalone effort. It falls under the city’s broader transport strategy, which includes reworking traffic flow in neighbourhoods, introducing smart signal systems, and enhancing pedestrian safety.

Recent similar projects across Al Khail Road and Hessa Street have shown that small layout changes – like a new lane or better turning point – can create a noticeable difference when timed and placed right.

By gradually introducing these changes across the network, authorities aim to reduce overall congestion levels while maintaining a steady traffic rhythm across residential and commercial zones.

Officials plan further enhancements across corridors in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim. The RTA continues to assess feedback from motorists and monitor traffic performance in real time. Based on data and community inputs, more targeted upgrades are likely to follow.

This community-focused approach helps ensure that infrastructure adapts as the city grows, rather than waiting for major congestion crises before taking action.

The Al Wasl–Al Manara road upgrade may seem modest, but its effect is already proving substantial. With delays down by over a third and smoother transitions now in place, it’s a quiet but effective improvement to one of Dubai’s key traffic corridors.
