Dubai Fountain to Reopen October 1 After Major Revamp

Downtown’s most iconic water show returns this October with advanced tech and refreshed performances

After months of redevelopment, the Dubai Fountain is confirmed to return to action on October 1, 2025, bringing back its world-famous performances with a modern edge.

Authorities closed the Downtown Dubai landmark in mid-April to carry out an extensive upgrade, known for its spectacular water shows set against the Burj Khalifa. Emaar, the developer behind the project, has now revealed what visitors can expect once the curtain lifts on this refreshed experience.

Major Enhancements Set to Transform the Experience

When the Dubai Fountain lights up again, guests will notice more than just the return of water jets and music. The attraction has undergone a thorough transformation designed to enhance the visual and sensory impact of every show.

Key features of the upgrade include:

  • Advanced robotic systems to choreograph water movements with greater precision
  • Refreshed lighting and sound technology for more immersive performances
  • A newly installed durable concrete base to support the fountain’s infrastructure and reduce wear over time

Already globally praised, the upgraded show now pushes Dubai closer to its entertainment and urban vision.

Promenade Upgrades During the Closure

To maintain visitor interest around the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa area during the temporary closure, Emaar installed 500 metres of high-definition digital screens along the promenade. These interactive displays have kept the waterfront active, offering animated visuals that complement the cityscape and create a dynamic environment even without the fountain in operation.

Restaurants and cafes surrounding the fountain, typically known for offering guests an unbeatable view of the nightly water shows, have continued to attract diners thanks to these added digital elements and the ever-present skyline view.

Rent Relief for Affected F&B Businesses

Recognising the impact of the fountain’s closure on nearby dining venues, Emaar has introduced temporary rent waivers for 50 food and beverage outlets with terrace views of Burj Khalifa Lake.

These spaces, popular among both residents and tourists for their proximity to the fountain, will receive four months of rent support from June through September. The measure aims to reduce the financial burden on operators during the transition period and ensure business continuity in one of Dubai’s busiest destinations.

According to Emaar, this decision reflects a broader commitment to nurturing long-term relationships with tenants while supporting the vibrancy of Downtown Dubai.

Expectations are high

The much-anticipated Dubai Fountain reopening will bring back the signature shows with more refined visuals and updated choreography. Guests can expect water displays reaching heights of up to 140 metres, synchronised with a renewed lighting system and audio design.

The inclusion of robotic elements in water and light movement is expected to improve show precision and offer a fresh spectacle, even for returning visitors. While the fundamental character of the fountain remains, the upgraded format introduces a new level of performance befitting its iconic setting.

Timed for peak tourist season, the Dubai Fountain is set to reclaim its spot as a top photo and visitor magnet. Since 2009, the Dubai Fountain has attracted millions and ranked among the UAE’s top free sights.

Its location between Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall places it at the heart of the city’s tourism landscape, offering a unique blend of engineering, art, and open-air entertainment that appeals across all age groups. More than tech, the redevelopment showcases Dubai’s pursuit of world-class public experiences. Blending performance and architecture, the Dubai Fountain remains a proud symbol of the city.

The Dubai Fountain reopens on October 1, ready to dazzle with smart tech and revamped infrastructure.
