Sharjah Confirms Eid Al Fitr Holidays for Public Sector Employees

The Sharjah Human Resources Department (SHRD) has announced that public sector employees in Sharjah will observe the Eid Al Fitr holiday from 1 to 3 Shawwal 1446 AH. The holiday will provide government employees a well-deserved break to celebrate the end of Ramadan with their families and loved ones.

If Ramadan lasts 30 days, the 30th day will also be considered a public holiday, giving government workers an extended break. Regular working hours will resume on 4 Shawwal 1446 AH, except for employees working in shift-based roles.

Eid Al Fitr Holiday Timing and Impact

The sighting of the crescent moon determines the official start of Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal. If Ramadan lasts for 29 days, Eid Al Fitr will begin on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. If Ramadan extends to 30 days, the holiday will begin on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

The confirmed dates allow public sector employees in Sharjah to plan their time off, whether for travel, family gatherings, or personal relaxation. The extended holiday offers an opportunity for spiritual reflection and quality time with loved ones.

Potential Holiday Extension

Should Ramadan last 30 days, Sharjah government employees will benefit from an additional day off, extending the break to a total of four days. This flexibility ensures that employees have ample time to observe religious traditions and spend time with family.

Private Sector Holiday Announcement Expected Soon

The authorities have confirmed the public sector holiday dates, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) is preparing to announce the official Eid Al Fitr holiday dates for the private sector soon. Historically, the private sector has followed the same holiday schedule as the public sector, so similar dates are likely expected.

Eid Al Fitr is a time of gratitude, forgiveness, and togetherness. Families traditionally start the day with prayers at local mosques, followed by gatherings with relatives and friends. Sharing festive meals and exchanging gifts are key parts of the celebration.

In Sharjah, residents can look forward to a range of Eid-related events and activities, including:

  • Community Gatherings: Public spaces and community centers often host Eid celebrations.
  • Fireworks and Light Shows: Popular attractions and shopping malls are likely to feature special displays.
  • Dining Offers: Restaurants and cafes are expected to roll out special Eid menus and promotions.
  • Shopping Deals: Many retailers will offer discounts and holiday sales, making it a great time for shopping.

Sharjah Leadership’s Message

The Sharjah Human Resources Department congratulated the UAE’s leadership, citizens, and Arab and Islamic nations. The department wished for peace, prosperity, and unity during this sacred time.

Why This Holiday Matters

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer, and charity. The holiday serves as a time for self-reflection, generosity, and reconnecting with loved ones. The break allows government employees to rest, recharge, and celebrate the spiritual significance of the occasion.

The confirmation of Eid Al Fitr holidays for Sharjah public sector employees reflects the importance of family and spiritual traditions in the UAE. With the potential for an extended break, government workers can look forward to meaningful celebrations and time to reconnect with their families and communities.
