The Saudi Film Festival is set to make a grand return for its 11th edition from April 17 to April 23, 2025, at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran. Organized by The Cinema Association in collaboration with Ithra and supported by the Film Commission, this year’s festival promises an impressive lineup of films, global partnerships, and a platform for creative talent.
The theme for this year, “Cinema of Identity,” will explore the rich and diverse cultural narratives shaping Saudi and Gulf cinema. The festival will feature 68 films, including 36 feature films, short films, and documentaries from Saudi and Gulf filmmakers.

In addition to local films, the festival will screen 12 short films from international filmmakers, made possible through a partnership with the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France. This collaboration aims to bring fresh perspectives and foster creative exchange between Saudi and global filmmakers.
The festival highlights cultural identity through unique stories, elevating its global appeal.

The Production Market remains one of the festival’s standout features. This year, 22 exhibitors will present 22 projects, offering filmmakers valuable opportunities to secure funding, establish industry connections, and refine their creative visions.
As the only dedicated platform for Saudi filmmakers, the Production Market serves as a hub for industry networking and creative collaboration. Emerging and established filmmakers alike will have access to key industry figures, paving the way for new projects and partnerships.
Competitive Spirit: Awards and Recognition
The Saudi Film Festival will host several competitive categories to recognize outstanding talent and creativity:
- Out of 285 film submissions, only the best will be selected for the prestigious Saudi Film Festival Award.
- 116 projects have entered the Production Market competition, vying for recognition and financial support.
- 313 scripts are in contention for the Unproduced Screenplay Award, highlighting the festival’s commitment to nurturing fresh talent.
Winning a Saudi Film Festival Award has become a mark of excellence in the region’s growing film industry. The recognition and exposure gained from the festival have helped many filmmakers advance their careers and reach wider audiences.
Japanese Cinema Takes Center Stage
An exciting addition to this year’s lineup is a special focus on Japanese cinema. Through a collaboration with the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Japan, the festival will feature eight Japanese films — including both feature and short films.
In addition to the screenings, the festival will host masterclasses and seminars with Japanese filmmakers, offering valuable insights into Japanese storytelling techniques and production styles. This cultural exchange is expected to enrich the festival experience and introduce Saudi audiences to new cinematic styles.
Why the Saudi Film Festival Matters
The Saudi Film Festival promotes cultural dialogue and supports the Saudi film industry’s growth, giving local filmmakers global recognition.
By supporting collaborations and showcasing diverse films, the festival positions Saudi Arabia as a rising global film industry leader.
