Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, recently unveiled the Sayyida Khadija Mosque in the Al Waha area, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the city’s spiritual and cultural life. Located on Al Dhaid Road in the Al Ruwaidat suburb, the mosque is set to serve as a significant place of worship and community. In addition to the mosque, Sheikh Sultan also inspected the Al Ruwaidat Cemetery, located adjacent to the mosque, which will provide services for the community’s burial needs.
A Mosque for the Future: Design and Features
The Sayyida Khadija Mosque is a testament to both architectural beauty and modern functionality. Built in a unique Fatimid style combined with modern elements, the mosque covers an area of 49,383 sqm. It can accommodate more than 2,800 worshippers, with 1,400 in the main prayer hall for men, 1,325 in the outer portico, and 140 in the women’s prayer area.
The mosque features a central dome with a 10-meter diameter, along with two smaller domes and two minarets that rise 40 meters high. Designed with energy- and water-saving technologies, the mosque follows modern environmental standards while maintaining an atmosphere of spirituality and reverence.
Community-Centered Facilities
Beyond its prayer areas, the mosque offers a range of services to enhance the worship experience. These include a library, water stations, ablution areas, restrooms, and parking facilities for up to 592 vehicles. Additionally, residences have been built for the imam and muezzin, ensuring that the mosque is a truly self-sufficient and well-maintained facility for the community.
The design of the mosque places a strong emphasis on convenience and comfort for all visitors. With spacious prayer halls and surrounding areas, it is built to cater to both individual worshippers and large gatherings, offering a peaceful and serene atmosphere.

Adjacent to the mosque is the Al Ruwaidat Cemetery, which spans an area of 639,931 sqm. Paved roads, designated parking areas, and integrated services streamline the burial process in the cemetery. The cemetery includes a mortuary building that provides separate areas for people of all genders. These facilities maximize efficiency and uphold the utmost respect for the deceased with modern systems.

The opening of Sayyida Khadija Mosque and the inspection of the Al Ruwaidat Cemetery reflect a deep commitment to both the spiritual and practical needs of the community. Sheikh Dr. Salem Al-Doubi, head of the Preaching and Fatwa Section at the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, delivered a sermon emphasizing the significance of mosques in fostering spiritual peace and community harmony. Following the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan joined worshippers for the Maghrib prayer, further strengthening his bond with the community and highlighting the mosque’s role as a place for spiritual reflection and unity.
