Dubai’s RTA Unveils Affordable Shared Taxi Service to Abu Dhabi

Dubai’s New Shared Taxi Service to Abu Dhabi Offers Travel Savings Up to 75%

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a pilot shared taxi service linking Dubai and Abu Dhabi, bringing substantial savings for commuters. Running between Ibn Battuta Mall in Dubai and Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi, the service allows passengers to share a taxi for as low as AED 66 each – a major reduction from regular fares. This initiative supports Dubai’s aim to provide sustainable, convenient, and affordable inter-emirate travel.

A Sustainable, Budget-Friendly Commuting Option

To ease congestion and lower emissions, RTA’s six-month pilot program offers significant savings for frequent commuters. Fares are calculated based on the number of passengers sharing the taxi, with a maximum of four riders. Here’s the cost breakdown:

  • Two Passengers: AED 132 each
  • Three Passengers: AED 88 each
  • Four Passengers: AED 66 each

These fares represent a savings of up to 75% compared to a standard taxi ride. Passengers can pay with bank or Nol cards, enhancing payment flexibility and convenience.

Strategic Pick-Up and Drop-Off Points

We chose Ibn Battuta Mall and Al Wahda Mall as the route’s end points to facilitate easy connections with local public transport. Both locations are well-served by buses and metro services, helping passengers complete their journey seamlessly. If successful, the RTA may extend the service to other popular routes within the UAE, potentially revolutionizing travel options for daily commuters and tourists alike.

Promoting Eco-Friendly Travel and Safety

The RTA’s shared taxi initiative aligns with Dubai’s environmental goals, aiming to reduce both carbon emissions and the volume of private cars on the roads. Taxis in the program come with built-in safety features, including cameras linked to the RTA’s Operations Control Center, ensuring passenger security and monitoring driver conduct.

Enhancing Accessibility for UAE Residents and Tourists

By providing an affordable alternative to regular taxis, the RTA is making inter-emirate travel more accessible. This service appeals to a wide audience, including business travelers, tourists, and daily commuters seeking a budget-friendly, comfortable, and reliable travel solution.

The shared taxi pilot is a testament to Dubai’s commitment to pioneering innovative transportation solutions. RTA’s shared taxi service will transform travel, focusing on affordability, sustainability, and convenience.
